Our key outputs and work to date have included the following
Strong partnerships and relationships formed with local and national organizations such as Welsh Rugby Union, Street Games running a Doorsteps Sports Club at Grange Pavilion and Cardiff City Foundation running their Kicks program.
Working with Cardiff University academic staff from different Schools to co-design and collaborate on projects and funding applications for young people to engage in, gain new skills and raise aspirations. Examples include successfully collaborating with Community Gateway for 2022 Careers and Role Model Week to promote the event throughout the community.
Successful at the Street Games National Awards, winning a National Doorstop Engagement Award for their work bringing sport into the community in 2017.
YF Girls Group, formed in 2021, attended and won the Young Change Makers Award following their successful empowerment and health & wellbeing project.
Registered as Community Interest Companies (CIC) in October 2021.
Successful applications for the Winter of Wellbeing and Summer of Smiles initiative to Cardiff Council’s Child-Friendly Cardiff, securing almost £10K of funding to run youth activities in 2022.
Launched our Training Ground Youth Led Café in the Grangetown Hwb to support young people in gaining experience and employability skills in the hospitality sector
Organised a Great Winter Get Together with the Jo Cox Foundation and brought together 70+ young people to enjoy fun, games and great food.
Working with local artists on a new project, ‘Arts for Change’ developing and having workshops on mask making, printing and filming to put a Grangetown Youth Arts Festival.
Over the World Cup, through our partnership with Street Games, we created an atmosphere and worked on using football to engage young people and make them excited about the game.
Funding Appeals – Our amazing young people continued to respond to urgent needs worldwide and pull together as a community. We raised £550 for the Türkiye – Syria Earthquake, £1000 for the Pakistan Floods and £5000 for Somaliland.
Worked with the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences to engage young people about the environment, learn about the River Taff ecosystems, and take trips to Cardiff Bay and Brecon Beacons.
Hosted a Youth Heritage Day in Somaliland for Black History Month
Supported Young People from Grangetown to complete the Rotary Youth Leadership Award
Held workshops with Flossy and Boo to learn about creative writing and storytelling.
Attend the Black Mountain College on their Ecological Camp
Partnered with National Theatre Wales to work on their engagement and process on the show ‘The Cost of Living
We took over 60 young people to Oakwood theme park in the Summer of 2022; lots of fun and engagement to cap a great end to the school year.
Worked with the School of Geography and Planning on the Grangetown Recovery Plan for young people.
The young people are also volunteers for Cardiff University activities at the Pavilion, including Careers and Role Model Week.
A new collaboration with SHARE school at Cardiff University, ACE, Fitzalan High School and Cardiff West High School, looking at the past and history of Romans in Cardiff, connecting young people and heritage in a project called Roman ‘Diff Fusion.
